8800 GTX vs e6600 OC prob.

Thread Starter
Okay, so as the topic says, I have an 8800 GTX and a e6600. They both run perfectly normal.. Stock.

When I OC my CPU, (the typical board settings that every guide for P5B-D tell me to do) My GPU freaks out... Example:

Stock GPU - Stock CPU: Benchmarks for 3dMark06 are normal - almost 11k

Stock GPU - OC'd CPU: Framerates go from 30-70+ to 8-22.

So some setting I have on my P5B-D is causing my GPU to have a severe bottleneck. Currently I'm running everything stock ATM, until I can get enough time to diagnose the cause of the bottleneck and what OC function is causing it.

If anyone has any advice or suggestions, please swing them my way.

Thanks guys.

It is likely instabilities in your Northbridge which are decreasing the bandwidth of the PCI Express slot. Check with CPUz and see what the speed of the PCI Express slot is. I am willing to be it is running at 1x or 4x.

If it is, increase the voltage of the north bridge and increase the PCI Express Frequency until it stops.

Yeah, that's correct Pauldovi. It's at x4 when OC'd. I'll try your suggestions and post back. Thanks a lot.

Alright. Fixed. You were right, it was my NB and freq. I was at link x1.

Changed that stuff around and got it back to x16, and at 3.3Ghz, it went from 10.5k to 12.3k | Stock to Overclock
OC'd my already OC 8800 GTX KO to 645/1020 to get 12,507 on 3dMark06.

Thanks again man.

Guffeh, can you tell me please, what are the values you set for NB Vcore, SB Vcore and PCI Express Frequency?
I have very similar system of yours.

Josephmoore,
I've battled with this problem for quite a while on my machine with my 8800 GTX with different settings. Currently I'm running near stock with slight OC to preserve the health of the machine, as well as get higher than expected numbers overall.

Currently I'm running. 3.3GHZ for CPU, but as far as voltages go in your initial question:

NB - Auto
SB - Auto
PCI X - Auto

Why? you may ask...
For my reasons: Simplicity, because sometimes I would change a few of the above listed, and it would work for a day or so, then instability would come in and make my Graphics card run at x1 - I didn't like that, so I'm leaving them on Auto, and it's been fine ever since. Not a true Overclocker's motto, but for the time being, it's all I can do, I don't have enough time to work all of the kinks out of my machine, but I hope you the best of luck in your situation.

Thank you for reply. My previous settings were as yours but last night I changed to:
NB- 1.45
SB- 1.6
PCI X- 110

No problem for now, I will OC my card and see it again.
