Computer fo DJ/Producer

Thread Starter
A guy asked me to setup a computer for him that will be used for djiing and producing(at home).
He's budget is between 800-1200€ =1000-1600$.
I've been out of the scene for a while so i need your help!
I've heard that quad-core is now cheap, and ddr3 is becoming the standard.
Just one thing, try to keep it at 1200/1300$ so he still has money for the pro equipment after buying the pc.
thanks!

What site do you normally order from ? the UK sites are probably gonna be more expensive...

Just sugest hardware, i'll search the best priced store.
After knowing what hardware it should be , i'll play with the price/performance ratio.
thanks.

Why would he need a quad-core for music production? Any basic system will be fine. A high-end studio/music sound card is a must. The only thing other thing that I would definitely recommend is RAID1 just in case of HD failure. Oh, he would want a dual-monitors as well.

Alrite,

DDR3 is not a viable solution right now.

So, something like

Quad core 6600(after price drop should be around $ 300)

4GB of DDR2 RAM ( Music Apps are ram intensive ?? I dont know anything about them , so just a suggestion, cut it down to 2 if they are not and get bigger monitors)

Raid 1 Hard drive Array of 500gb drives ( ~$100 each) or even 0+1 if you can fit it in the budget ( which is 4 drives)

Two decent size monitors ( 19" sounds reasonable , 22" if you can)

A good Intel motherboard P35 or P965 something .. ( the dj wont be overclocking probably so, an Intel board is the best bet in that case)

Ask one of the audiophile's for the sound card and speakers though.... Auzentech I hear these are good ...

No need for quad core at all.

Save the money and put it into a sound card. Not sure which... so wait until an audiophile shows up.

I am only suggesting purely because of the price drop very soon(unless he needs to buy it before the price drop in which case , buy a dual core), and I completely agree with you , if the choice is between a sound card and processor, go C2D , but dont skimp on the sound card.

About sound cards, i will be researching together with him, depending on the apps he will be using, there are better or not so good cards.
Well i think:
E6600-222.90
Asus P5k WS-229.99
2x500GB Western digital hd's-188
XFX GeForce 8600GTS(the pc will also be doing video/photo editing)-189.99
G Skill 2GB DDRII 800 cas 5-119.99
I don't know about power supply....
2 HP 19" 1440x900-379.99(maybe just one 20"...)
what you think?

yes sound card first and then see how much money is left. but you will still get a good computer with that budget.

what you think?
Video and photo editing are not GPU dependent. They rely on CPU processing. Quad-core does help in video editing. So how important is video editing speed now? You can't have everything so how important is it?
