Completly agree duckie.

My father used to (still is, but to a lesser extent) be deep in the feild, and he did fine.
He had a Tbird 1.3GHZ, 512MBs o ram, and an Audige, believe it or not.

A faster system would mean less latencies, and decreased encoding times ect. But all you would need for that I bet is say... a AMD x2 system.

Quad core is getting more power - that wont even by uttilized by the said.

Get at least 500GB I'd say...

Apple would not be a bad choice when it comes to av only, I personally use Wiodows, because I am so used to it. When It comes to av, I have to hand it to apple, faster, easy, and makes sense, however, if you are used to windows it is not a bad experience. Lots of good info here, I am now a subscriber especially for the 8aux in/out post. I deal with mixing board's and computers all the time. I am sorry for the bad grammer, but I have just gotten back from a blues jam. All I could drink and eat + $80.00 to run the mixing board at the local blues jam night. That post b4, about the 8 ch in/out is pretty nice, never seen that b4. Wish it was 16 midi ins, but shure the product is out there. Look into Allen & Heath bords, they have products out that work with USB, makes it easy to mix LIVE Good luck.

I honestly don't think 1200 EUR is going to buy much at all.

well, i don't think a dj would want a desktop in my opinion, it be better to get an apple macbook or something of that nature for a dj. As far as desktops go, apple is way overpriced but they are very good with adio/video. A its hard to build a pc that can keep up with them in that respect, but it can be done and at a equil/cheaper price and the hardware is more easily upgraded.

Laptops are fine for on the move mixing, but they aren't studio machines.

As for the X-fi, I say that because it's pretty damned good, and a cheap alternative to studio cards. For production and mixing anything above onboard will do because it's going to be rendered as wav anyway (no quality loss)
