I used to have the 7800gtx but upgraded to the 8800gtx. As far as the games you play, I think the 7800gtx is fine, but I am sucker for new technology and you might as well upgrade-not only because its newer, thats not a good reason. But because of what it supports:

* Unified shader architecture
* GigaThreadâ„¢ technology
* Full support for Microsoft® DirectX® 10
o Geometry shaders
o Geometry instancing
o Streamed output
o Shader Model 4.0
* Full 128-bit floating point precision through the entire rendering pipeline

NVIDIA Lumenexâ„¢ Engine

* 16x full screen anti-aliasing
* Transparent multisampling and transparent supersampling
* 16x angle independent anisotropic filtering
* 128-bit floating point high dynamic-range (HDR) lighting with anti-aliasing
o 32-bit per component floating point texture filtering and blending
* Advanced lossless compression algorithms for color, texture, and z-data
* Support for normal map compression
* Z-cull
* Early-Z

NVIDIA Quantum Effectsâ„¢ Technology

* Advanced shader processors architected for physics computation
* Simulate and render physics effects on the graphics processor

Yea, I copied all of that from Nvidia's site, but as I recall, I had to go into regedit just to get 4 x antialiasing.

But yea, hope I could help.

I have to agree given your requirements. The 8800 (even the 320 MB version) will give a huge performance boost but you probably wouldn't see it.

yea I am not interested in gaining higher benchmark scores. If I would see a drastic difference in my actual gameplay it would be worth it. And yes I know I can get about $150 for my card on ebay, but I still dont see the need to spend 450 on a vid card.

Just stick with your 7800GTX. Us 8800er's are hoping to max out the future games like Crysis and all the new DX9-10 being released, though it'll be expensive.

Thing is, if you only play those games why do you need to even buy a quad core with 4gb of ram?

Keep you 7800GTX if you only play them games! Then buy a better DX10 card when they come out.
