Hey suitcase,

I have a very similar setup to yours, same mobo & an X2 3800 Manchester. I'm at 2.6 right now with 100% load at 50°. I'll bet yours will do that if not more. I pitched the stock cooler before setting a permanant overclock. I could go a bit higher with mine but for the hot summer months I'm going to keep it at 2.6. I am running Gskill which goes up to 243 on memtest before errors start. I'm running on a 166 divider so at 2.6 mem is at 237.

lets c.. with value ram, u may need to use a divider to keep it around 200 mhz. try to set your fsb to 260mhz @ 1.4 vcore. lower ht multi to 3 and change the sb->nb to 3x also. able to boot up?

Man you guys are horrible Here I am happy with my 2.4 and you're now making me want to crank it up more!

So keep ram divider at 166 or less to keep ram around 200, 3x on HTT, FSB at 260 and up the vcore to 1.4? What is the sb->nb ? I've never heard of that.

Oh and Cvalley75 thats awesome. I'll make sure I get better ram and toss the stock heat sink on my next build.

Don't let anyone talk you into an overclock that will get the temps too high. 2.4 is good, your stock cooler will only let you go so far before the temps get too high. I took it real slow when I started to overclock, & I made sure I had everything backed up in case I corrupted my drive.
If you are using the TIM that came on your stock cooler, you could clean & reseat using AS5, that should make your stock cooler a bit more effecient.

I upgraded from an athalon 2700 single core to this dual core 3800 and cleaned and reseated the HS with AS5. Made a big difference!

I felt like a little kid at Christmas, but I had a great time and the final result was amazing. I went from 8k to 9.5k on the benchmark'03.

Anyway, the last couple of days I started the process and for the most part had an easy time at it. I had to reset the bios a couple of times by popping the battery. But I got to 2.4 with just lowering my HTT from 5 to 4, the FSB up from 200 to 240 and ram dividing back to 200.
I just have a couple of questions:

1) I didn't mess with RAM timings yet. Should I? Are the performance gains pretty nice? I just have 2 Gigs of corsair pc3200.

2) I turned off Cool n' Quiet. Now that I'm done adjusting the OC, can I turn it back on? My idle temps are around 36C up to 52c under full load. Does Cool N' Quiet mess with the OC other than the temps? My pc is a bit more noisy lately.

Man, this stuff is addicting. I had to hold myself back from OC'ing more lol.

thanks in advance.
it's the addictive activity that doesn't kill brain cells lol
Yes cool and Quiet actually changes your core clock and vcore while in windows to save electricity. Turn it off
