Extreme Green Computing Project

Thread Starter
Well this is my first post so I'll state what my mission for this project is:
  • Very low power
  • Environment friendly
  • Still useable for web surfing and office work
  • Portable
I've done researching for the hardware that I might get, they are:
  • AMD Geode LX700
  • 16GB Compact Flash
  • 1GB DDR SDRAM
  • Damn Small Linux
So what I need to find out are:
  1. What the lowest resolution that Damn Small Linux can use and it is useable at that resolution?
  2. Does the lowing RAM volt can make a different to lowing the power usage? (If it does support it)
  3. Wearable TFT glasses (some I could see being used are 1.1W) or very low power TFT monitor would do better?
  4. What sort of battery system would it need if I need to run it on battery?
  5. Solar Panel or Winding up system?
Thank you to everyone who read this, I hope someone can help me.

solar panels do not produce enough power to power your comptuer system, well atleast not efficient enough for you to make it portable unless you want to walk around with a gid of huge solar panels on your back.

but they can be used to charge the batteries your comp uses. most people would say lithium batteries because they are light and can produce a lot of power, but they get expensive, espeically for rechargeables, so i would say ni-mh batteries.

thanks for that, I'm open to all ideas of it, basically the portable's not imporant anymore in this project so I'm thinking of using car battery for it. I've work out the total power used it roughing used is 6watts for all the hardware, including the TFT glasses. I haven't order the hardware stuff yet until I'm sure it's the stuff I want for the project. +REP

What kind of "office work" do you plan on doing with it? 16GB isn't much to store docs and files. Check VIA and SiS as well as AMD.
Once again...

All docments and programming, plus Damn Small Linux's only 50MB, so not a problem here. I've researching VIA and SIS as well AMD and found that AMD given the lowest power usage with AMD Geode.

Well this is what I'll order by the end of this month:

PSU: picoPSU 80 Watts
Motherboard/CPU: AMD Geode LX700
RAM: 1GB DDR RAM
Storage: 16GB Compact Flash
Case: Yet to decide
Montior: Yet to decide

I'm still waiting to hear from the supplier about the AMD Geode LX700 because I have no idea how to order one as it's very rare seen online.
