Those BluRay players can play DVDs as well. If BluRay fails its not like your whole PS3 is ruined.

I doubt there was a $200 premium on the PS3 for the BluRay player. But we will never know.
That reasoning falls far short of making sense. You are forced to buy a Blu-Ray player by virtue of wanting a PS3. It's that simple.

There is though as the graphics techonology between the 360 and PS3 is not very different at all and up until this point in time, graphics wise the 360 has won hands down although this may change over time. The main reason the PS3 is so expensive is simply due to its Blu Ray Player put in just to beat the rival HD-DVD and at little to no benefit gaming wise.

Lets see:

The PS3 has Wifi, a larger HDD, BluRay, Cell processor...

To me, it is a much better deal than the XBox360. However, don't get me wrong. I think all consoles are a waste of money.

Forced because i wanted to play PS3 exclusive games, but didnt need nor want a Blu-Ray player. See the dilema? In other words, they shoved it down our throats no matter what. If there was a choice to play PS3 games on a system with only a DVD drive and paid 200$ less, i would have done it. Heck, they got me addicted to Devil May Cry and Ratchet and Crank

Except that the PS3 games "Need" the a BR disk (or HD dvd) because it has so much content. Sure... i'm certain they could have make a version of the game that fit on multiple DVD's instead of 1 BR, but then you'd be complaining that you're spending $100 per game (rather than what? $60). How would you rather spend the money? 1 time on the system, or 50 times as you buy more and more games?

The PS3 is as good at gaming as the 360 just not as many titles yet , however that is to change soon.

I can't believe you listed the cell processor as an advantage. It means virtually nothing. Also games wise the 360 beats PS3 by a long shot which is why it is a much better console at the moment. However the Blu Ray player and wifi on the PS3 does make it good for some people, although not for most people who just want to play games at a price as cheap as possible.

True enough, but ultimately all companies will offer a product built in a most cost effective and/or profitable way. Obviously Sony believed incorporating a Blu Ray player would give them some kind of edge, and early on it seemed as though it backfired. Yet, now I believe Blu Ray media is driving PS3 sales and conversely PS3s are driving Blu Ray media sales. Where as with MS a lackluster desire for HD content and a nonexistent incorporated HD player may be stifling XBox360 and HD movie sales.

I never thought I would see the day where Sony would/could dictate MS market behavior(aka MS following suit and announcing their own price cuts).

Whats the difference between PS3 exclusive games "forcing" you to get a PS3 and a PS3 "forcing" you to get a BluRay player?

Perhaps the issue is with the games? Maybe you should take up gripe with the publishers and demands a Xbox360 or PC version?

A CPU means ALOT now in the console world as it does in the PC world.

The Cell CPU'S computational power is HUGE. Its a supercomputer type CPU thus why it is so good at folding. Also CPU'S are mainly in charge of graphical rendering. Thus due to the fact of Cells power it has alot of headroom when it comes to texture rendering which can lead to more FPS which can then lead to developers being able to up the eye candy due to the FPS headroom thanks to the Cell CPU.

So Cell has got ALOT to do with it.

PaulDovi was correct to list it.
