Razer Barracuda Sound Card

Thread Starter
Hello,

I currently have the Razer Barracuda HP-1 gaming headphones, but I'm using on-board sound

Razer recommends using the Barracuda Sound card with the headphones to get the best quality.

I was just wondering if it would be worth it to get the Razer soundcard, or something a little less expensive.

This card uses the same chip (I think?) as the barracuda and is cheaper:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...Meridian%2b7.1

Also, it is not worth it really if you are just going to use headphones through it. A cheap X-Fi will do the job just as well, e.g.

It really depends on your sound set up. If you have cheap speakers, then an expensive sound card is wasted really. Even one of the old creative cards such as the Audigy 4's or Audigy 2's sound good also.

If you're a gamer, get an X-Fi. If it's for music, then get an Auzentech, Blugears, or the Razer.

Well that's what I am, a gamer. So what's a good, yet affordable (as in around $100) X-Fi soundcard that's on the market right now?

What about these:

I only use headphones, so would that be overkill?

I would recommend the X-Fi ExtremeMusic, it is a better card than the XtremeGamer.
