And?

That's not my point.

People keep going "oh, and it's a BluRay player too which obviously makes it much better" ¬_¬

Actually, the PS3 is such a loss-leader that its losses completely wiped out all of the profits from selling Bravia HDTVs, which have a hefty profit margin; and the theatrical release of Spider-Man 3. Spider-Man 3 was kind of a biiiiig release...

Well...I think that stamement implies that the two demographics are identical. There's overlap, sure...but they are not identical.

I'm actually surprised that video game penetration is that low. Seems like every kid in America has a GBA or a DS...are they not counting handhelds in those stats, perhaps?

That bugs me too. You didn't hear anyone back in the day saying that 3.5" floppies made games better than 5.25" floppies...or really even that CDs were better than 3.5" floppies. It was still the same game, the storage media was and is largely irrelevant IMHO. Go with the cheapest for the consumers, I say.

Exactly!!

Not arguing, but i'm not sure if you got what i was saying. The link you showed for $16 bux was a one disc dvd, whereas the two links he showed that were 2 bucks apart were both 2 disc special edition's but different media formats. So in actuality, blu-ray isn't that much more in comparrison.

Microsoft is still probaly making a lot more money though.Think of it this way the 360 cost $399 (Premium), plus a subscription to Xbox Live= a lot more money, although the PS3 does have a built in wireless. The 360 wireless adapter cost around $90 which = about the same price for both systems.Oh ya the PS3 also has Blue ray, which is looking like the clear winner right now.If Blue Ray wins Microsoft could always make a Blue Ray add on.My conclusion is......... well we will find out in probaly 2 years who the "next gen " winner is.

Well i kinda do believe that there is a good amount of overlap between the two demographics...Though you have to remember that Gba and DS' haven't sold as much as PS2's, so i would consider that the bench mark. But all things aside how many games are truly out there? most gamers buy multiple forms overtime so we can't say combine all console sales and that's the answer and even if we did that it would only be about 3-4% of the worlds population, so i don't feel that there really is that much penetration outside of Large areas of population like America, London, Asia...Europe is the biggest potential buyer region yet i believe it isn't #1 in actual sales. Idk but the way i seperate HD users is by 3 categories: Sports, Gamer, Movie Buff...I would also like to say most of the Movie buffs and Sports buffs like to turn to video game replications of those genres for more entertainment(ala Madden) Though i would say around 55-60% of those gamers overlap with around 85-90% of those gamers overlapping being between 18-35 yrs old. Obviously this is mostly my speculation, and not fact and i could be way off, but i truly believe games do have a ways to go to match the penetration of music and movies, though they have had alot longer time to grow than video games(ignoring the fact that VG's are near being the #1 grossing type of entertainment if not already there i believe).

Every 360 sold is and will be a lose for MS for a long time, therefore they have to make up for it by pricing a 120gb hdd at $179....

forcing those that want HD downloads to upgrade to a larger hdd and not allowing outside drives to be used, unlike Sony which allows any standard 2.5in drive to be used.
