The 8600 has much better performance than the 8500 even with less ram. The 8600 has more shader units and a faster GPU clock.

8600. the 8500 might start to catch up with it at really high resolutions, but most of the extra memory in that 8500 probably won't get used at normal rez. it's probably just there as a marketing gimmick.

whenever it comes down to it, it usually always what GPU it is you are going to buy. pretty much the only time u actually have to worry about getting a card that has more than 256MB is when u r going to be playing with resolution greater the 1280x1024. once u play with 1600x1200 or greater, thats when u really need to worry about how much RAM a card has.

until then just do it pretty much based on the GPU.

hold on. what are you going to be using the video card for.
1 .what kind of games do you play?
- do you play with AA/AF and eye candy on
- what resolutions you play at
- what is your "maximum" budget.

I think that a 8600GTS would make you happy,It might cost a little more but it Beats the 8500 and the 8600GT.
