CPU bottlenecking 8800 GTS? - Page 2

I'd say your entire system is a bottleneck for that card, CPU, RAM and even your PSU... 400w with a card like that O_O

PSU is not a problem. However I run on a 939 socket board. So I am going to stick with AMD only.

Great now I need to get $70

The thing that confuses me the most, my friend has the same card and a 2.4 Ghz AMD processor, 1 GB ram, same card but the 640 MB version. Yet he can max out oblivion and etc with good FPS. I can barly get an increase in Source.

im telling you, if you dont igve that video card enough power it wont performk as it should, a 450 watts PSU is required to run a card of that type. the 320mb and 640mb are exactly the same at low resolutions, only way to see the jump in performance between the 2 is running games over 1600x res

Are you unable to play at the FPS you're currently getting? Yes? Then who gives a rats ass if you have the same FPS as before if you can play? Hell, if you were getting playable FPS before why did you even buy the new card? To see the nice FPS number in the corner go up? I don't know what monitor you're using but I'm going to assume a 12x10 LCD that will likely have a max refresh rate of 80Hz, or, 80FPS. No matter how fast your GFX produces frames you will NEVER see more than that refresh rate... not ever...

Where is this MILLION FPS AT ALL TIMES mentality coming from? It doesn't even make SENSE.

For a more detailed explanation, click the link in my sig.

The FPS I am currently getting is equivalent to the 6600 AGP card I had before, so yes it DOES matter. Also I couldn't run Oblivion which I can't still run.

What CPU would you guys recommend for a 939 Socket board. Something that will take full advantage of the card.

Sorry, nothing in 939 will let the card run to it's full potential. It's an outdated socket.

The closest you are going to get is an opty 165 or X2 overclocked to the max.
