The closest you are going to get is an opty 165 or X2 overclocked to the max.
Not really...The only real difference between am2 and 939 is that am2 can run ddr2.

if he upgraded to 2 gigs of ram and got a 4200x2 it would be just fine.

Oh and am2 has one more pin...940pins as compared to 939 for (duh) 939 systems.

I wasn't really refering to AM2, though. Agreed, he would be fine with a 4200, but when he asked if it would let it run to the card's full potential, I took him seriously.

At least 8K in 06 if overclocked.

With my current specs or with the 2 GB RAM included? I am shooting for at least 9k. What do you mean 06?

Those are both single threaded games... only clock speed (or switch to a faster architecture) will help him, not more cores. (not enough to matter in this case for sure)

I don't believe that this is a case of CPU bottlenecking (at least not so badly as to prevent playing at an acceptable FPS.) Something else is afoot. But if you really feel that you need a new CPU and are using this to justify it, go right ahead.

Ram doesn't really do anything for the 3dmark, but it really helps in the actual games. I would definately invest in 2GB for smooth gameplay without hard drive paging.

Also 06 is a reference to 3dmark06. You could get 9K with a high enough OC. Say around 2.8-3.0ghz. My X2 @ 2.6ghz and GTS 640mb @ 630/1000 managed to get around 8500 in 3dmark06 so you should get right around that score unless you clock the CPU or GPU higher.
