The only time I've tried before was on my old computer and I used the terrible program that the mobo came with.
My computer specs are in my profile... but here's a quick rundown.
My processor is the E6420 with stock HSF.
For my mobo I have a GIGABYTE GA-P35-DS3R
500W Cooler Master PSU ATX12V
So if you could, just walk me through... What do I need to test prior to OCing? What programs do I need? Any recommended settings to start out with?
I don't want to fry my computer... or damage it too much. I intend on keeping it for a couple years...
I'd also like to OC my graphics card and RAM...
EVGA 8800GTS 640MB
OCZ Platinum 2GB (2 x 1GB) DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500)
but that's for a later time.
Well, you have the same board I have (still waiting for case so I can set up) so you should go into the BIOS and go into the Intelligent Tweaker and change your FSB. Be sure to get some programs first so your OC is successful.
Temperature, I like to stay below 60C, but others keep it even cooler, under 55C. It's all personally where you start to feel anxious/nervous about the temps.
Hmm I see... I don't really feel anxious or nervous about any temp, because I just don't know!
So do I just run Orthos for (how long?) and see how high the temperatures are raised on TAT?
It worked perfectly fine/normally up to 300, but when I tried 333 it wouldn't even load windows, even when I upped the voltage. Then I tried tuning it back down to 300, and when that wouldn't work I put it back to normal... =/
