Thread Starter
i recently bought a 1950pro at 150$ (Sapphire ATI Radeon X1950 Pro 256MB GDDR3 PCI-Express Graphic Card)

i wanted to know if this 7900gs would have been a better buy at 165$?

you made the good choice, they are neck and neck with the 1950pro usually being a bit better http://www23.tomshardware.com/graphi...=712&chart=275

When both cards are overclocked on stock volts the performance of them are very similar with the 7900GS winning slightly more benchmarks...however the 7900GS volt mods like a piece of cake and if you overclock it with a volt mod it beasts on the X1950PRO..however then you need a better cooler for your 7900GS as well.

I prefer the 7900GS and thats what I bought but the X1950PRO also gets clearer image quality so neither are a bad choice IMO...even though I have the 7900GS I will say this hah.

Not sure how well the X1950pro overclocks, but my x1900gt overclocks fairly well, I'm at 580/1602 from 513/1314 - I get ~5200 in 3dMark06 with a 3600+. Temps are 58C idle / 78C load with my room temp at around 85-90F. There's also a volt mod I found somewhere on google, going up to 1.85v
