7900gs vs 1950PRO - Page 2

post #11 of 56
I don't know how the GS performs, but my old 7900GT@600/1600 had good scores in benches and bad performance in games.( e.g 15-20fps in Carbon@1280 4xAA 16xAF, all other setting maxed out)
The biggest disadvantage of GF 7xxx series is lack of support HDR&AA;
GF7 is just GF6 with more pipes. Not really suitable for HiQuality HDR graphics.

The 7900GS i think is a real good card so is the X1950 but the 7900GS wins with overclocking. So 7900GS Ftw.

I have a 7900GS from Gainward. Stocks at 450/660. Overclocks and runs stable at 616/1560, idle temp at 57 degrees celsius. I once pushed it to 633/1600, OVERCLOCK IS DRIVER dependent.

you must be talking about the "fake" HDR they use on Source games. nVidia 7 series cards and below cannot run true HDR and AA at the same time.

dude, you bought the right card. the 1950 is better than the GS. it just seems like you got a bad apple. don't let that cause you to think they're all bad. if nobody can help you fix it, RMA it for another one and it will take good care of you.

Thats true about HDR and AA not working simultaneously. Though the 1950 can boast about better quality AA and AF, its the 7900GS that tops scores at higher clocks. These were built to OVERCLOCK!!

you don't buy a video card based purely on clock speed. i'm gonna stand firm on this. not only is the 1950 capable of running HDR and AA simultaneously, they also have more shaders and better picture quality. you will have better video quality in today's latest games and the upcoming generation of games with the Radeon.

Love my 7900gs volt modded it overclocks like a monster and runs everything i throw at it great. 1950pro should run most things good to really comes down to if you want more power or little better looking games.

The difference is more than "little better looking"

Trust me.
