Pentium D 940 Hangs Up - Page 2

Well is there any chance you can try that cpu in another machine then? I'm skeptical because I've never seen one act that way because of a hardware problem with the cpu.

I would like to see how it acts at stock speed, without a sound card and with only 2gb of memory installed.

You are running Vista right? That makes me wonder about that VIA chipset and if it will play nice with Vista.

I can't toss it into another machine for a while. Right now its sitting at stock speed with the sound card but I'll go ahead and pull it out again. I'll drop it down to 1GB of memory though.

But right now I'm running XP Pro SP2 not Vista. I have a WD drive that has Vista loaded on it however that I can test with since my board and all are Vista capable.

I'll see if tomorrow I can get a video up on Youtube or something with the problem shown. It literally acts like the processor just stops for a brief second. It's so weird.

Well just as an update to finish it off, I just tossed in a SATA HDD from another computer to see if I could boot into Vista (No real reason behind this) and magically after I enabled my SATA in the BIOS the issue resolved?!?!

Not sure what the SATA port being enabled has to do with the choppy CPU but hey it works!!
