The Wii has no competition by design. It is marketed to a different crowd of gamers than the PS3 and 360, and it was done on purpose.

Well, I own a Wii and I also have Manhunt for PC and GTA for my xbox. I enjoy a good game of Wii sports or to play Zelda for a bit here and there and on those really fun get together with friends in time get some Super smash in...

Well you can always install all of your favorite games onto your PS3 and play that way. I prefer to play some games on my PS3 than I do my computer... why? Because every game i play on my PS3 has incredible framerate, never lags, and the system never gets unstable.

Everything your computer can do, the PS3 can do. Better? Well.. I duno. I dare not presume. Some things are better left to those who work for sony and can quote us figures

CPU
Cell Processor
PowerPC-base Core @3.2GHz
1 VMX vector unit per core
512KB L2 cache
7 x SPE @3.2GHz
7 x 128b 128 SIMD GPRs
7 x 256KB SRAM for SPE
* 1 of 8 SPEs reserved for redundancy
total floating point performance: 218 GFLOPS

GPU
RSX @550MHz
1.8 TFLOPS floating point performance
Full HD (up to 1080p) x 2 channels
Multi-way programmable parallel floating point shader pipelines

System Floating Point Performance
2 TFLOPS

The only thing we need is a top of the line computer specs to compare to.... and im pretty sure Computer < PS3

Point1history of the "power" debate...
Sega Saturn more powerfull than PS1...
N64 was more powerfull than PS1...
cani mind wat the game cube stats where!..prob more than PS2 again...
Dreacast was more powerful than PS2...
Xbox was more powerful than PS2...
PC was more powerfull than PS2...

As history has proven...
the power of the console has no bearing on how well a console does or the games that will come out on it...
PS3 - faster CPU
360 - meater GPU

Point2PS3 looks better than 360...
buying a console cause of its looks is prety insane!
plus its also arguing what is more attractive...
a naked fat man...or a nake fat lady...

Point3BlueRay will prevail?!
we do not know that...no one does...
also...MS/360 have not sided with anyone with regards to the next DVD format as they are developing games in standard DVD9 so far...
and
who is to say another disk called White Beam doesn't come along?!

the "best" technology doesn't always mean its gona be the standard across the board or the most popular!
BETAMAX / MINIDISK never cut it even though it was better!
BlueRay is too expesive just now and most people are happy with current DVD's...
there is no need for it at present or in the short term future...
long term..yes...more space etc...
but wither its BlueRay or not...who knows!...as long as its cheap!

I just find it amussing though SONY have come up with BlueRay and also put the "new" technology into their flag ship product...talk about cornering the market...
You think blueRay would be where it is if it was not for the PlayStation!!

Point4Xmas 07
Great games....BUT
The PS3 has to come down in price 1st before mass amounts of games are bought for it!
I loved my PS2 but i'll be damed if i am gona fork out the best part of £500!!

Point5The Wii
how long the Wii will last...who knows...BUT
The Wii was never gona be a main competator against the 360 or PS3...
its a console you have along side your super next gen console...(so "they"say)...

so what have we learnt from this orignal post...
not a lot thats very usefull when you look at the situation through non-PS3 glasses...

the PS3 is a nice bit of kit but has the price tag to go with it!...
but i am sick of hearing the over-rated-ness of this console!
Its a console that will do well...but its not gona destroy the gaming world cause it soooo good...
The PS3 will do its own thing in its own corner of the boxing ring while the other consoles do their bit...

but it has to be said! - i hope the PS3 is reliable as any other SONY product i have had has ALWAYS seemed to break just outside the warranty and if its in warranty, its not covered!
i love gaming n stuff...but...i am not really wanting to spend that amount on something thats been built by substandard parts!

Dont even bring the reliability factor here. I for one have never had a problem with sony parts. The PS3 doesn't even heat up (unless you leave it in a hot room or a small compartment) at all. And i don't know what all the hoopla is for the Wii, its neat but I for one do not think that it's very good. Zelda was a waste of my time, and any shooting game on there handles like crap.. In the end the PS3 will win the console war (you know...the one between the 360 and PS3) because for one thing, it is backed by Sony. Tell me how many backed sony formats have failed? You can judge a system that hasnt even been out a year yet. How long did it take the 360 to get GoW?

One more thing, I had a 360, I have a Wii, and I game on my PC. The 360 was alright until it finally crapped out on me. But i was so much happier when i got the PS3. Any i meant above "Tell me how many formats have failed that were backed by sony" not how i put it up there.

Betamax
SONYS betamax was superior to VHS...

but VHS was the one that won...

MINI Disk
SONY introduced mini disks...
Better than tapes with CD quality play back for you own compilations in the car...

But again...failed cause it was too expensive...
£250 was the cheapeest in car MINIDISK player i could find back in 1998!!!
thats expensive now let alone back then!!!
£250+ for a portable recordable minidisk player...
£200+ for a recordable minidisk player to go in a stacked hi-fi...
£11.99 for 4x 74 min disks...

ALSO...CD burners started to come down in price towards 2000...

So in the last 2 decades SONY have tried to push 2 formats, and both in the end failed after a limited stint on the market!
A shame...as i had both had a betamax player, a recordable portable minidisk player AND a recordable stacked mini disk player for my hifi cabinet...

One would think BlueRay is gona be more successfull this time round for SONY!...
but i think thats ONLY down to the fact its in the PS3!...
had a BlueRay player not been installed in the PS3...
I think BlueRay would have been strike three for SONY!...

Don't forget UMD. That was supposed to be a portable movie format...it lasted what, five minutes? It was a poor idea from the start, and it died because a) the PSP simply has not caught on enough to popularlize the format, and b) retarded movie companies were charging as much or more for a UMD movie as a DVD movie. R-E-T-A-R-D-S. Movie distributors simply refuse to accept that "real people" do not think they are buying a license to a movie in a single format...they think they are buying the movie. The correct thing to do was to sell the UMD with the DVD, for maybe a small upcharge of $5 or so to cover the cost of the UMD hardware. Trying to gouge people for more profit while you're trying to establish a media format is suicide for the format.

Very likely true. Certainly Blu-Ray movies are outselling HD-DVD movies, but that is in no small part because there is more BD hardware out there in PS3s. Standalone BD players are not outselling HD-DVD players in the same way though, so the PS3 is clearly making a difference.

There is still the issue of the movie companies all lining up behind Sony, though. Even without the PS3, there would be more movies available on BD than on HD-DVD.

Anyone who says Zelda is a waste of time loses a lot of credibility in a gaming forum. Only die-hard Nintendo haters make such silly claims. Real gamers recognize great games whatever the platform.

Reeking of Sony fanboyism, I have to tell you. Sony is not some awesome uber-company, folks. I could make the same statement about Microsoft...they never really fail either, you know. And their company health outstrips just about every other company on the planet...they're sitting on billions and billions of dollars in cash, for pete's sake. In a corporate head-to-head cage match, I gotta tell you: give me Microsoft over Sony any day.
