I don't know who will win the format war and dont really care for another year at least.
As for your average person on the street, half of them havent even heard of blu-ray or Hd and WONT be moving up from plain DVD for a long time yet.

Blu-ray, HD and PS3 are in the fanboy arena still.
The people buying them now are the enthusiasts.

The 360 is slightly cheaper so meets the next level of market down as well, making it more mainstream than the others...so far.
Have to agree, hence why the Wii is still sold out in some places..

So no one remembers the GameCube? It was cheaper then the PS2 and still is but the PS2 sold far more and continues to do so.

It's entirely possible that the 360 will keep its lead in front of the PS3 but price is not the only reason for that.

While the current crop of games out now for the 360 and PS3 pretty much look to be on the same level, remember that the 360 came out a whole year before the PS3 and had a chance to work out its (graphical) kinks. But when people play games like Heavenly Sword and see how seamless it is compared to the sometimes choppy Gears (Come on now, you know multi-player’s frame rate sometimes falls apart), they’re going to be converted in the worst kind of way.

Ummm, negative. The 360 has a slightly better GPU and the PS3 has a much more superior (when fine tuned) processor...

2: Blu-Ray will eventually prevail

With Blockbuster’s decision to only support Blu-Ray instead of HD DVD, that’s only the first blow to hit Microsoft’s chosen format, as down the line I predict Blu-Ray will eventually prevail. This prediction is of course not backed by anything substantial, really, other than the comments I hear in the mall, at the Gamestop, and on the line (that’s internet, boy). And everybody knows the internet never lies.

It does look like Blu-Ray is in fact winning the war. Although, to be honest...I could care less which format wins...just announce it, lower the prices, and I'll be cool.

3. Christmas 2007

Sony’s next line-up of games will certainly bring more to the table than Resistance: Fall of Man. And with games like MGS4, Heavenly Sword, GTA 4 (Though, not exclusive) and scads others (Like, Lair) coming to the system soon, it won’t be long until the Sony fanboys come back from out of their little cupboards and stand up tall proclaiming, “See, I told you they’d return! I TOLD YOU!” And with the recent price drop, that declaration can’t be too far off.

You can always say how awesome the games will be, but hype is hype...Some of those games do look fabulous, but I doubt even half of them will rock the gaming worlds socks off...

4. People will eventually tire of the Wii

The clear cut winner in the next-gen wars so far is bound to be discovered for what it is soon—a minigame pumping, fad machine. And once kids start getting the drift (I think adults already have, what with their hands probably already tired of swinging around a master sword since no other worthwhile games have come out for it since launch), they’ll start tugging on their mom’s dress for what Sony has to offer. And I’m looking forward to that day.

*FACEPALM* No, I am still not tired of it. No, I probably will never be. I play the Wii just as much as I play my 360.

5. God of War 3

I mean, seriously, what other console is it going to come out for? If I have to buy a PS3 just to play it, believe me, I will. And so will you.

I don't understand how in the hell this is it's own category as there was a previous category for supposedly bad arse games. Also, this game sure the hell won't make or break the PS3.
Overall, I think the points were lacking. I would be saddened if those are the reasons behind people buying PS3s. I hope there is a price drop and I hope that some of those games listed are wicked, because if this happens, I will have a shiny PS3 next to the other two consoles by Christmas...or the end of the summer because I am impatient.

Now, like I have said before, just because I don't own the system, doesn't mean I can't provide my own educated point of view from the resources I have. A couple of my friends own PS3s and I have extensively played the thing both on his 32" HDTV and my 27" HDTV. I have also read countless articles from multiple points of view in regards to all three systems. I own the other two next gen consoles...but in truth there is no proof at this time that the PS3 sucks. Give the PS3 a full year, and then we can start throwing out claims of which system is "better", if we can even truly define what "better" is in a gaming console...since each gamer is after something different.

But Lair and that fighter jet game (it's 12:58 here...I just spent the last two hours writing the most ludicrously bullsh**ed essay ever...and I can't remember the name of the game or a better phrase then "fighter jet game") look so cool. I don't think its enough for me to buy the console yet, but it would certainly help.

P.S. Interesting new avatar Mike.

I'm not very hot on Microsoft for various reasons but let me tell you that once they fix the Ring Of Death issues with the 65nm shrink and new heatsinks, I seriously wonder if the 360 will be fail proof.

PS3's failure rate: under 1%, most of them because of dumbasses not able to care about their consoles.

Wii's failure rate: 0%

360's failure rate: 33%

I agree with the reasons, however, those ones aren't THE reasons why PS3 will be a success.

That'a man!
This is one of the most relevant points ever.

FORGET that it's a PS3.

Cog, you mentioned it's not mainstream because the XBOX is cheaper.
Well- let's think of it as just a bluray player.

I don't know the numbers, nor have

But I am pretty darn sure the PS3 would be the most widely used BRD player out right now.

So I think that makes it more mainstream, maybe not as a console, but as a BluRay player for sure.

That article sucked. Yes it does have blu-ray, yay That is good. Gfx, I really don't know, PS3 is sharper but 360 has better textures. The Wii is a fad, I hate it, and yes I have played it, w/ a friend and alone. PS3 coming out for GOW 3 alone, lol thats an opinion my friend, try GT5. The lineup of games is interesting at best. Now that AC6, GT4, and a few other games have moved on to 360 i'll be getting it for that console. But I still am going to get a PS3, and a new computer. So it's all good.
