P5B Deluxe - Loading OS?

Thread Starter
So, I have a hard drive installed that has an unregistered copy of XP on it, hooked up to a SATA port. It won't go past the log in screen. Then I have a CD drive hooked up to the single ATA with the good ole grey ribbon. How do you get it to load a new OS? I'm thinking maybe the ATA isn't working, or maybe I just need to hit something to make the cd drive auto-run? Can I wipe the old hard drive clean from BIOS somewhere? Thanks.

I'm trying to install XP from a Dell OS cd, so that I can then upgrade to Vista. I have installed the CD before so I know it works (for 30 days anyway, without registering it.)

You won't be able to install XP from a Dell disk unless its a Dell you're putting it on.
But assuming you knew that...
Go into BIOS and set CD boot before hard drive boot.
Hopefully that will work.

Be sure to have the Jmicron controller enabled in the bios. This is required to use the ATA port on the motherboard. If it is not enabled, enable it, reboot, and enter the bios again. You should be able to select your cdrom as the primary boot device.

That sounds very likely. Thanks.
