Raptors are one of those things ou don't measure with a dollar. If you want the ultimate and can afford the ultimate then get the ultimate. Having run Raptor RAID and 7200.10 RAID I can say I do see a notable diference. But In general they are about equal. Where nothing touches a Raptor is in Seek Times. I have high hopes for the 7200.11 as Seagate has really impressed my with the 7200.10.

I have RAID arrays of slower SATA and frankly they just don't cut it anymore. The 7200.9 is a slug. The older Maxtors are nothing special either. But the new WDs and and the New Seagates are well worth purdchasing in matched pairs. I would not reccomend buying another 160 to RAID because it is not going to be that fast..and for a small amount more you could get larger drives at a better gig/price ratio.

If you are on a budget why even consider marginally better performance at a premium price? Just get the best performance you can afford...which in your case is likely just another larger HDD..no RAID.
