Hard Drive about to die...but still under warranty!!

Well, from what i can tell, my hard drive is nearing the end of its life...It clicks non stop now...sometimes more loudly than other times....I created an RMA form online with Western Digital. I must say this...Western Digital has the easiest RMA form I've ever used in my entire life. I did the advanced RMA where they send me the new 200GB drive first, then i send my bad one back to them....so i can get all of my files off before this thing dies.

The only drawback is that you have to enter a Credit Card number (which wasn't a problem for me...i entered my debit). They make you do this just in case you decide to not return the defective drive...they will charge you the unit price for it if they don't receive it within 30 days....

But anyway, I'm so glad that my warranty was still good! I love Western Digital's 3 year warranty! Just thought I'd share that with you guys and girls, lol

Yeah I should've went with the Advanced RMA when my drive died a week ago. Still waiting for the new one...

But their RMA process is pretty easy.

I hope the new drive gets here before this one goes down, though....It clicks or almost sounds like it's rattling non-stop...and every time i open a big folder with like a lot of files in it, it sounds like the drive is making farting noises or something, LOL

Almost like when a high speed metal wheel hits a rubber pad or something it makes a Whoomp noise if you know what i mean....it's weird and hard to explain, lol.

Man that drive is toast from your description. Maybe the heads are scraping the platters? Wanna record a video?

Well i got a replacement hard drive from WD yesterday...put it in and it still makes a rattling sound...but guess what i found that rattling to be!!

Armor case owners that use the top hard drive cage, you will know what i am talking about...

The cage up top where i put my hard drive is rattling against the freaking PSU, lmao. It's such a close fit that sometimes they bump and it makes a kinda clicking noise.

Now, i did do a good job getting a new HD however...because the rattling wasn't the only thing i was noticing...it also made noises when going from picture to picture in a photo album or something like that and this new one doesn't....

But this is what i don't get.
I install speed fan because i wanted to see what the hard drive's S.M.A.R.T. score was. I did the "Perform an in-depth online analysis of the hard drive" and my score at the bottom came out to be:

The overall fitness for this drive is 30%.
The overall performance for this drive is 98%.

I got close to the same thing with my old drive...the fitness was 30 and the performance was 92. I was wondering if this is accurate or not? Does anyone else have a fairly new hard drive that wants to run this quick test on speedfan?

For comparison, my 3 year old Hitachi drive gets .. dun dun dun:

93% in fitness and 95% in performance.

man dude...should i RMA again? lol

I want this drive to last for a good while. Soon, I will be building a new computer with RAID and will use this 200gig drive for storage.

WD must not ship brand new drives for RMA...must be used ones..
