8800GTS 320 vs 640: Surprising Results

According to This Review, The 8800GTS 320 actually out-performed the 8800GTS 640 at lower resolutions (1600 x 1200) at stock speeds. The factory overclocked XFX GeForce 8800 GTS 320MB XXX edition soundly stomped the 8800GTS 640 in almost everything. I have found my video card

but the xxx edition is oc'ed no?
at lower resolutions the 320 performs equally to the 640 at equal clocks. the XXX one is indeed OC'd, so at mentioned resolutions, it should outperform the 640.
however, you're better off buying a normal (cheaper) 320 and OC it yourself to XXX clocks or higher.

This isn't even surprising. They are the same card, of course it will out perform it if it is clocked higher.

The thing is, what about on native DX10 with shader intensive apps.....who will win then?

It did, and thats what really blew me away. I'm running my monitor at 1280 x 1024. I was thinking about using EVGAs Step Up, but with thier price being $70 higher than Neweggs on the 8800s, and paying shipping 3 times, it would run me $100 more than buying it outright from newegg.

So that's why I took a closer look at the 320s and found the XFX. The human eye can't distinguish anything over 28-30 fps in any case.

I hope you wasn't been serious

I played STALKER perfectly at 30 - 50 FPS and you really cannot tell the difference between 30fps and 200fps.

You could say it is a matter of opinion but it isn't.

DON'T get the 320mb version. From what we have seen already in games like Lost Planet and Call Of Juarez, the 320 gets MURDERED by the 640mb. I suspect that the trend will continue in later DX10 games too.
