7900gt , I had a 7950gt and it sucked , very unstable and not very fast. not just one card too , RMAd twice

im using 7900gs's because they are cheap and OC farther than 7900gt's when you vmod but I dont think you want to watercool / vmod so the 7900gt is for you

If you already have a 7950 GT, why not get another for SLI?

The 7800GT is pretty much the same as a 7900GS which is basically an underclocked 7900GT. The 7950GT is by far the most powerful of those cards. from what I have seen, the x1800XT is slower than the 7800GT.

FYI, don't go by pipelines, there is so much more to cards than that. Look at reviews sites, they have what you need. I have found this chart invaluable when comparing cards:

http://www23.tomshardware.com/graphics.html

just make sure you don't compare the cards via 3dmark, it lies like a rug.

EVGA 7900GS is 105 bones on the egg after 20$ MIR. I just ordered one. Though I am planing on v-moding the card. To me this card is a better deal, but just my opinion. I don’t have it yet to give the performance specs/ OC ability. I plan on OC mine with stock volts and stock cooling before I start to mod it if you want to wait till Sunday or Monday to order I can put some screens up.

an x1800xt is muuuuuch better then an 7800gt it has wayyy better quality as well and ati pipes do not equal nvidia pipes. also if u can find a x1800xtx 512mb it would b much better because it wins in most cases against the 7800gtx
post #10 of 57
i would go for a 7950gt because it probably has the best price to performance ratio...if you bought a 7800gt today, you would probably spend about $30 less than a 7950gt because they are no longer being produced while 7950gt's are being manufactured by the boatload...you also dont have many options as far as a 7800gt or x1800 because they arent being produced...

about vmodding, go for it! it is actually alot easier than it sounds...just have someone help you for ur first time and have good cooling in mind and you will reap the benifits of a highly clocked card
