Unable to boot dual channeL?

Thread Starter
Well basically I've had the memory in my specs below in dual channel forever, but today I cleaned out my comp, dusted and all, reapplied arctic silver to my heatsinks.. When I was finished and tried to turn on my computer it wouldnt even show a image on the screen but would turn on.

I then pulled out one of ram the sticks (2g = 1gx1g) and it booted. I then put both sticks in single channel mode and it booted and recongized the 2gs of ram. What gives?

Since it is recognizing the RAM, the RAM should be fine. The problem appears to be with the motherboard itself.

Try changing the RAM timings to once tick slower. Put them at 5-5-5-12 or 15. You should be able to do this when the RAM is set in single-channel. Once you change the settings and it reboots, shut it down and place them back to the slots they were before.

Also try raising the voltage to 2.1v on the RAM.

If that also doesn't work, it may be that the mobo has failed in some way. Check the bus lines with a flashlight and see if you spilled some AC5 on there somewhere. Just a small dab can mess you up.

This problem may not be fixable. You may need to replace the motherboard, if you want to use dual-channel.
