BFG 6800GS AGP OC problems?

Thread Starter
My 6800gs agp is getting artifacts with only the extra 4 pipes and vertex shader unlocked but before,in the winter, it never got artifacts even when i unlocked pipes and overclocked to 400/1100. Btw it has a zalman vf700-cu and when i installed it, sometime after i purchased the card, the idle temps were 46-48C and load was 64-67. Now its idle 55-57, load 71-73. But even if its at the temp it shouldn't artifact because before i used to overclock and unlock pipes at this temp. So I was thinking that if i took off the zalman vf700-cu, put the stock cooler on it, and returned it to stock clock, They should take it back a give me a refund/replacement right, because its got a lifetime warranty? I another reason I thinking to sending it back is because i think they stopped production on this model so they will have to send me another possibly better model. Thats what someone on the forum did and he got a 7800GS for a 6800GS. So what do you guys thinks i should do?

uummm

you overclocked that voided your warrnty.
you unlocked pipes which definitly voided your warrenty.

I'm guessing that the unlocked pipes were not completly well made and one of them has died and now you have your problem

Nope. And you can also close the pipes, if you haven't done that already.

The pipes didn't "die" iampoor, they were just corrupted to begin with.

well if its artifacting at stock then send it back...my 6800gs was running way to hot at idle. 75c, and also had a damaged locked quad pipe

rma'd and they gave me another one which unlocked perfectly fine.
If thet have referb'd 6800gs's they will give you that, otherwise they will step you up to the next level - is what the rep told me about 8 months ago.

BFG is an easy company to work with, i had zero problems with my rma.

cheers

Thats jus how the 6800gs is bro,i have a 6800gs bfg on my blue light special & i unlocked 4pipes once & got artifacts so i closed em back & overclock so am good.my x-boss also has that card & he said the samething about the pipes,he had artifacts so he colse the pipes back.

I guess that card wasnt made for the pipes to be unlocked man,its a great card without the 4 xtra pipes though, jus overclock it & your good to go.

2pacalypse666,

I had the same problem with my old 6800GT XFX AGP card, i overclocked it and other time i started getting artifacts, i also had Artic Cooling. I just put the standard clock speeds back on & stock cooler. They even excepted this when it wasn't under warranty.

To tell you the truth, i sent 2 back and got 2 brand new ones as i was going through some bad luck at the time

But no, they won't know that you've overclocked. TBH, they don't have the time to check it and it's alot easier for them just to send you a replacement or a better card.
