Ordering My Computer - Page 2

i gotta say it does seem silly to get all these leet overclocking parts if you aren't going to OC. but to each, his own. you've picked out some really nice components. i like your list.

Have not had any issues with either of my memory modules but overall, the D9GMH kit is better for overclocking.
First of all he is NOT overclocking. And I got the more voltage idea here...

Either way he is still better off going with one of the cheaper gkskills if he is no OCing. And Im assuming you will have a tuniq or equal so why worry about temps when you are not going to OC? Its not like you are going to be pumping 1.5 or even 1.3 volts into it

Okay guys, so I updated my list. I will be getting the HZ's because I can go with really tight timings (4-4-4-5-2 at 2.2v) or low voltages (4-4-4-12-2 at ~2.05v). Also, regarding my Quad, how low could I put the vCore to if I'm going to leave it at 2.4GHz?

Oh, and, I will not be overclocking because I will have a 1:1 FSB : DRAM Ratio and I will already have 9.6GHz of CPU Power, compared to the 4.8GHz I would have had if I got an E6600.

My next upgrades will be:

-Another 2GB of Ram
-nVidia 9-Series Flagship
-Windows Vista: Ultimate

You will not have 9.6ghz... what makes you think that? 2.4 x 4? Its still not the same as one core at 9.6ghz. And I would recommend you OC your RAM even if you dont OC your CPU because it is beneficial to run the RAM faster than the CPU.

EDIT: That is a really poor excuse not to OC especially with all the comprehensive guides on OCN. I would be willing to bet that a 4ghz e6600 beats your stock Q6600 at a lot of things. You are wasting a lot of CPU power... its not like its hard. Raise FSB, raise voltages. I hope you get at least 3ghz on that quad.

In Multi-threaded applications my Quad Core will 45-50% faster than a Dual Core, at the same clock speeds, because I have the two more cores. I have 9.6GHz of CPU Power, that's a lot. Plus, it's a Core 2 Architecture and I've been using A64 for a while now.

About my ram, I will not be overclocking (MHz wise) because at DDR2-800 I will be a 1:1 ratio. I will be tightening the timings to 4-4-4-5, 3-3-3-8, or 3-3-3-5 (if I use my OCZ XTC Cooler).

400MHz Northbridge, 1:1 Ratio, 2400MHz Processor, DDR2-800 Ram.

Another thing, redsox, I don't need this much power. A Pentium-D would be perfect for my system, my brother has a Pentium-D + 7900GTX and he runs any game (Call of Duty, Battlefield, Dawn of War, F.E.A.R., Doom 3, World of Warcraft, Half Life: 2 - LC, and a lot more) without a problem. He averages 70FPS at 1280x1024 with 4xAA and 8xAF. This is with a 3.0GHz Pentium-D and 2GB of DDR2-667 (4-4-4-9) ram.
