8800GTS Degraded Performance??

Thread Starter
Hi, it's me again. Yea the trial and error guy, haha. Anyway just plugged in my new EVGA 8800GTS 640 (upgraded from EVGA 7950GT KO 512MB) and I am really not seeing a big change. Only minor things. The only frame rate advantage I seem to get is in CS:S in the vid test demo I got an average of 225FPS Other games like BF2 and 2142 no change at all. I also ran the Nvidia demo "Adrianne" @ 20FPS only 11 in wire model.

I am running a cheap PSW right now (Rosewill 550W, 12v1=17amps, 12v2=18amps) My new OCZ gameXstream 700W gets here on Friday. Will this help or is my AMD 5600 holding this thing back? Any thoughts? Thanks,

Did you uninstall the old drivers and use driver cleaner pro before you installed new ones?

No, I just went into device manager and uninstalled my old vid card and then made the swap. Booted and then installed new drivers for the 8800.

That could be your problem. Are you sure they are "new"?

Uninstall all video card drivers through Add & remove programs, not device manager. Then run Driver Cleaner Pro. Then install the latest drivers from www.nvidia.com

I recommend the latest Betas....

wait for your psu. I believe that's the problem.
If I'm wrong, check the psu calculator

Ok looks like I have created some more problems. I ran DC pro and deleted some drivers I did not want to delete (network bus etc). Now after reinstalling drivers I keep gettin a pop up from Nividia software. "this is a warning from Nividia profile manager" Any Ideas?

what is your cpu clocked to? even a 5200 @ stock would bottleneck an 8800 pretty severely. You overclock the 8800 any? may i suggest a pretty low OC of 600/1000 using rivatuner. Also I suggest running the 158.22's if you are under XP as I believe those to be the best drivers based on my synthetic benchmarks. I scored the highest with 158.22's by leaps and bounds over the older and newer releases.
