Nvidia cards retested >>> insignificant difference between 320M vs 640M ultra-resolut - Page 4

Well it is kind of pointless to mention the fact that games don't take advantage of current technology 100% because come on people, we want the fastest we can get now so it might be more than a couple of weeks before we have to buy the next best thing. Sure, you might not need the 620 or whatever it is GTS, but as competative as we are with our fps and 3dmark scores to make up for the size of our genatalia, then you might as well get what you can while you can. Do we need 150fpson game A, NO! But it means that with game B in the futre, you will still get 50 fps instead of the 100fps GPU that now gets 33fps on game B

This is nice and all, but being that I've owned both cards, and run them both at the same resolution in oblivion with Qarl's texture pack and viewable while distant and distant land textures @1680x1050 4xAA/16xAf, I call MAJOR BS! Would have been nice if they would have tested some games that actually use more than 320mb of graphics memory...

My PNY 320mb OC'ed to 576/850 was a stutter-fest compared to my eVGA at stock clocks 500/800. In fact I upgraded to a 640mb card specifically for this reason.

320mb OC'ed= 45-55fps outdoors, framerate drops and freezes to 20fps

640mb at stock= NEVER lower than 45-50fps, typically 55-65fps nearly no freezing or stuttering.

I wish I would have saved screenies before I sold the 320mb.

edit: Also, as several others have stated... this seems JUST A BIT shady Nvidia.

WOOOO im dancin all over!!! I just got my 8800GTS 320mb yesterday. Now i can stepup to the GTX instead of the 640MB.

They tested SupCom and CoJ.

Oblivion shows minimal performance improvement with more VRAM, until you start turning rapidly. If you run in a straight line, 256MB is the same as 768MB.

Why do you say that? They're more accurate than Tom's.

In my opinion, we need more GDDR on our cards. It's cheap to put on there, and with the potential of CUDA/GPU programming, more VRAM can't hurt.

That would provide higher capacity, but vastly less bandwidth. You could expect a performance drop in the neighbourhood of 85%, and then the inability to enable AA.

On the bright side, you'll be able to enjoy 10 times as many polygons! (at 15fps)

idk why you guys are fighting. There is no difference in performance b/w the 320 or 640. If some of you are going to pull the "future games bs" then consider this. Can the 9800pro 128 meg play any games now? How much better is the 9800xt 256 meg? That's what I thought. We'll all need new cards by the time new games benefit so much more from more vram =)

Did you read my post? Are you implying that I just imagined the framerates I posted?

I've owned both cards which is not something many people in this thread can say, and there IS a performance difference. Probably only in one game ATM AFAIK, but it happens to be the game I play regularly.

I predict this thread will be LOL by the end of the year.
