Is it possible to hurt performance by OC'ing my card? I only ask because on default settings ATITool runs the 3D test ~85fps but when I started OC'ing it dropped to around 45fps... not sure if it's just that app or if I am actually hurting performance.

I don't think it's an Ultra... and I know it's a rare card because I can never find support for it! Basically, all I know is it's an Asus EN5900 GeForce PCX5900 128MB DDR PCI-E x16 and that NewEgg stopped selling it about a month after i purchased it (August 2005)

And P.S., the pic you have in your image gallery of the PCX5900 is my actual card! I can take a pic of it for you if you want one with the mobo interface showing

Thanks for the guide, but i have a problem. every time i try to overclock, the sliders just jump back to normal. every time i click apply on rivatuner, the clock resets. I also tried nTune. the same thing happens. and ATI Tools doesn't work. it keeps giving me this error message: "The video card you selected for overclocking in ATI Tool does not seem to be used by windows. Visual testing has been disabled. To fix this, go to display properties, settings and enable the monitor output of your card" I have checked the options menu in ATI Tool and it gives me one option for the graphics card i have, but it shows it in the wrong location. in System settings, it says my card in in PCI Bus 1. in ATI tools, it says PCI bus 0.
PS I have an nVidia GeForce GO 7950GTX

Good guide for the starters.

Only, scanning for artifacts must be done at least 10 mins before you can call it stable. Sometimes it starts artifacting after a few minutes or so, so you can't really say it's stable after 10 secs.

You can also use the 'find max mem/core' option in ATI Tool, and just hit abort as soon as it starts artifacting, and then go back some mhz's untill the artifacts go away. Then wait for another 10 mins to see if they don't come up again and you can call it stable

Just a simple question. Is GPU's like CPU's when it comes to overclocking? That you could either get lucky with a good OC card or get a card thats not so good for OC?

Wondering because it seems like my card has hit a OC wall @ 648/1088(1620 shader)
Any higher and i get either artifacts or the computer freezes.

Well Babel, with all the XFX cards i've had. I've found that they don't want to overclock much. I think its just XFX, from my experience. But Intel CPU's will overclock a hell of alot. It just depends on your motherboard.
