screwy HDD- chkdsk alternative?

Thread Starter
Recently, my computer has been running check disk on my 100GB every startup... but it never finishes (always runs into an error)... I've tried several things.... attempting to defrag it (but it kept saying scheduled to run chkdsk at startup and wouldn't let me proceed)... and reformatting it.... i finally just edited the registry to prevent chkdsks at startups.... but it still wont allow me to defrag the drive and i keep getting errors while gaming (all my games are on this 100GB)....

my main question right now is whether or not there are good third party alternatives to the windows chkdsk command.... however, help in general would me much appreciated
