8800GTX vs. HD2900XT 1GB GDDR4? - Page 4

the gtx is $80 cad more than the HD2900xt at NCIX, and at ultra high resolutions, wouldn't the 242mb more memory come in handy? i'd go with the 2900 ( i have used owned 2 nvidia cards so it's not fanboyism)

If you think about, the 2900XT is cheaper in the long run. In winter you can save money by turning off the heater and instead you use your 2900XT as a primary source of heat, of course you must open your case.

We don't have winters in Florida...

What about the summer?

Dood, why do people keep saying that the HD 2900 XT runs hot?????

IT DOESN'T.

It runs MUCH cooler than my old 8800gts, even when OC'd.

I get 43c idle, 60c load. How is that hot?

8800GTX.

Unless you want less performance with more power usage :O.

Fact: X2900XT uses more power than the 8800GTX.

Fact: Power = heat

Your X2900XT may be more efficient at getting heat off the board and putting it in your room than the GTS, but there is still more heat there.

Most of you guys can't stay objective on this topic because you have either 8800GTX or 2900XT. How can you say that a brand new product is already worse than an already approved for 6+ months product like the 8800GTX. Only time will tell which one is better or perhaps they will be ~equal. Not neglecting the fact that many custom models of the 8800GTX have come out so far since the card has been on the market for a much longer time. When some custom model of the 2900XT 1GB with some better cooling and more OC potential is released then you can judge which one holds more value. And this has been said over and over again, but I will repeat it once again. The drivers of ATI for the 2900XT aren't nearly as good as the nVidia since they are like 1 month old and the nVidia's are 7-8 months old ( make your own damn assumptions )

How can you compare objectivity and ownership of a specific videocard?

Time cannot tell which videocard it better. This is a technology market. With time, no one will care about these flagships, because the new flagships from Nvidia / ATI Will be out. Nvidia took the performance spot last November and continues to hold it today. The X2900XT won't change that. Hopefully ATI's next offerings will be more competitive. However, Nvidia will be launching their next series in November. How long will it be before ATI does the same?
