8800GTX vs. HD2900XT 1GB GDDR4? - Page 7

You know SLI is a great option for high resolution especially SLI 7900GT's! I think it may even give a 8800 GTX a kick in the rear

I like the 2900xt's, but I think the faster card would be the 8800gtx and ultra. You don't see hardly any 2900's in the top spots in ORB, there are a few but the 8800's hold most all the top spots.

Either way you go your gonna have a decent card, at least if you get the ATI you have more choices for boards that support multi-gpu.

Any straight forward thinking man can see that the 2900XT is really good, just underrated because of the bloody drivers

HD2900XT has 16 TMU but 8800GTX has 32 TMU, this means that 8800GTX has higher texture fill rate.

HD2900XT has 16 ROP, and 8800GTX has 24 ROP. This means that 8800GTX has slightly higher pixel fill rate.

And stream processors in 8800GTX operate at 1.35GHz, not 575MHz

And R600 uses 64 superscalar unified shaders consisting of 5 stream processing units each for a total of 320 stream processing units (In other words HD2900XT doesn't have a true 320 stream processors)

Lol, I thought you were a pilot not a politician. Same here I guess though. The architexture of these cards is so different that comparing tit for tat will get us all nowhere.

well, if anyone cares...

it looks like i'll just skip 1st gen dx10. i hear the new DX10 and 10.1 cards coming out in the near future are going to be massively better. from ATi and Nvidia...
I am waiting until nvidia release the next card.. hopefully the 8900GTX.

Nvidia released the 8800GTX ages ago and ATI only released the 2900XT days if not weeks ago. My point being is that ATI keep making cards to compete with Nvidia's cards instead of making cards which crush them.

So if you work it out.... Nvidia's next card will be better that the 2900XT or whatever else ati make....

I am not a fanboy of either companies.... just a fanboy of performance....

Nvidia are ahead.... It took ATI over 6 months to make a card to compete with the 8800GTX... By this time, Nvidia are nearly ready to release something even better.

people have such short memories...

X1950 XTX - top dog of its generation
X850 XT - top dog of its generation
9800 XT - top dog of its generation

see my point? nVidia has had the top card for less than a year now and people are talking like ATi has gone out of business. these first generation DX10 cards haven't even been put to the test yet - it's possible that none of them will be competent DX10 cards.
