Quad Core - Worth It? - Page 2

Haha You crack me up, Cyber with your one-liners
I already got a 4GB kit in this one, but I don't think you guys understand.

This is going to be a completely different rig, seperate from this one. It will most likely have 2 GB of RAM (I will upgrade in the future in time for Crysis, etc), probably a GTS for now and then a GTX in the future, and I need to decide on Quad or Dual core for it.

I want to play games on max everything, burn the processor to the max playing games. I guess Quad Core would be best then? They're not too expensive, either.

I have my QX6700 at 3.2 and it loads with Orthos at 69C, but 63C in normal quad-core envirnments.

Performance will be less than what you have now, just because you are overclocked higher. In the future the quad will score much higher.

TBH, stay with the E6600 until september (Crysis), then buy it. Crysis and Alan Wake are the only games i've heard of that will benefit from quad cores so far.
Well, it's also been apparent that Q6600's run cooler than the extreme processors. See my sig. xD

Q6600 is dope, can't wait to go back to Quad land and then Penryn on top of that. With that said, I'm also into content creation. I edit, digital illustrate, am in Photoshop twenty-four seven and a few other things; it's my job. Games will benefit once developers choose to implement Quad Core support, I don't think you'll see an immediate benefit in the extra two cores though. You might feel like you got cheated because you aren't doing any extensive work.

It's there, though. Especially for upcoming games like Alan Wake, Crysis and Left 4 Dead (Rumored Quad Support).

If you have the money... and don't really care about clocking over 3.4ghz on air, then Quad is a great choice.

Brilliant I plan on putting an Ultra-120 Extreme in it with the top-range Silverstone fan - cool, anyone?

Also, on Tankguys.biz -- it says they are taking reserves for G0 steppings. But from what I've heard, the G0's are exremely rare ... so can they really guarantee a G0 stepping?

I would wait a little mate.

Due to the fact that most applications are not even coded well to use 2 cores then its easy enough to say Quad core is still being worked on in that respect. Quad core is great for folding though for obvious reasons. However folding aside I would wait a little for prices to drop a little further.

an E6600 would be fine.
just overclock it and your cool
