Purchasing: The Monolith

Thread Starter
Okay, so, I am finalizing my build. I am looking at getting:

-Thermalright Ultra-120 eXtreme for $65 at Newegg
-2x1GB of G. Skill DDR2-800 HZ Ram for $130 at Newegg
-Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Processor for $300 at Tankguys
-Asus P5K Deluxe/WiFi-AP Motherboard for $225 at Newegg

Ram:

My Ram will be running at DDR2-800, however, I will be tightening the timings significantly. I'm hoping to achieve 3-3-3-8 (versus the stock 4-4-4-12). How many volts would I need?

Processor:

I will be running my processor at stock, because it is a Quad Core, and I will be using a Thermalright Ultra-120 eXtreme + 2 Antec TriCool Fans (pushing 39CFM each) to cool the Quad. My FSB : DRAM Ratio will be a 1:1 because my FSB will be 400, with a multiplier of 6, achieving 2400MHz.

Graphics Card:

How will an eVGA e-GeForce 7900GTX handle 1680x1050 when paired with a Core 2? I'm hoping to play games like F.E.A.R., Doom 3, and Half Life: 2 - Lost Coast maxed out with a high amount of Anti-Aliasing (4-8x) and Anisotropic Filtering (8-16x). How much AA/AF could I run maxed out at 1680x1050?

Should I change anything before I order my system?

Playing most games, the Q6600 will perform the same as an E6600 so I would atleast overclock to QX6700 speeds.

cant you hear the stuff begging to be overclocked? it should be clearly audible even all the way from the Newegg/Tankguys storage buildings.
you're getting the most awesome OCing stuff currently available, and you're gonna leave it at stock? thats simply cruel...

I will not be overclocking because a Quad Core is definately overkill. Oh, by the way, it will be a G0 Stepping Q6600 from Tankguys (and it will set me back $270-$300). Maybe when 45nm Penryns and 4GB become the standard I will overclock my Quad to ~3.0GHz; I might also get Water later on (2008 or '09).

Hah the Tuniq Tower was an even bigger band wagon than the thermalright. Go with the better, don't base your decision on what other people have, that is stupid.

If your not overclocking and are against overkill, why are you even getting aftermarket cooling?
