If thats a bit too high (or you'd like to customize)

the 3000 family is very affordable and very good. I've used lenovo/IBM for a long time as does my computer Guru. I've never had problems with them, and I use my 3000 series for College work Usually $600-$1000 for a very good rig

They even have Fingerprint Readers for security purposes. Whatever you get, IBM/Lenovo is the way to go, In my opinion.

Office Depot always has some great deals on laptops. I know because I'm trying to get one for a relative and I'm checking every weekend's add.

Last week's deal I screwed up, I didn't get this 17" laptop for $500 or was it $600? Anyhow, that's what they had and forgot about it.

So, check office depot's add in the Sunday's paper.
