i will buy the gfx card from newegg because of the crappy selection stores have in that area.

i want to keep my ram.

i want to keep my mobo.

i want to keep my cpu.

i will return the GFX card and get the 8600 gt

MY NEW FUTURE SYSTEM SPECS:

CPU: intel core 2 duo 1066fsb 2.4 ghz

MOBO: abit IL9 PRO

RAM kingston ddr2 667 1gb x2

GFX: GeForce 8600GT

will the fact that my ram is ddr2 667 other than ddr2 800 greatly affect my game play?

my mobo doesnt really matter unless i am OC'ing (which im not) it was a budget board with what i need (supported 2 gfx cards and ddr2 667, and a 1066 fsb with intel core 2 duo support...)

First off, stop acting like a 5 year old with your f's and asterisk's.

DDR2 667 isn't too bad, I have it now and I run many games max.
Although for 81 dollars Newegg has some good RAM such as OCZ Platinum's but that is DDR2 800 and your mobo probably will downclock them to DDR2 667.

Newegg has a great RMA service. Returning it locally they would RMA it anyway and you would need to wait so it's the same crap but locally is more expensive.

Don't ever flame the Egg. It has the best customer service ever and prices are bar none (usually).

If you think all your crap is magical and want to keep it all don't bother asking for opinions. RAM isn't too bad so long as you MUST, MUST get 2GB to play any game or run Vista smoothly (well my opinion).

I have the same RAM you are about to get it's fine. Didn't try OCing yet because reseting CMOS is too much work with the huge 8800 .

Get a cheap CPU cooler as well such as arctic freezer 7 pro and try to OC at least to like 2.6 if possible. It's simple and very efficient.

exactly! this guy is exactly right. just order the stuff from new egg. one it is a lot cheaper, and two if it's still from a store you still have to rma it back to manufacturer. because most stores will not take back used electronics at least in my area. Blue orb II cpu cooler keeps that chip nice and cool actually.

Thread Starter
my mobo is cheaper at frys

i checked newegg its $5 more expensive (not to mention shipping and the shipment wait)

and yes, my mobo supports ddr2 667 and ddr2 800, so it wouldnt downclock it

***A VERY IMPORTANT QUESTION!!***

if i plug a pentium 4 533 fsb into a mobo that only supports 800 fsb, would it damage my cpu, not recognize it at all, or "OC" it to 800 fsb?

Not to doubt, but I had the Blue Orb originally and it only got me -4c off of stock cooling. But you are right about returning syuff to a store, I had to fight (only slightly) with the guy about why there was Arctic Silver on the bottom of the heatsink when I took it back to CompUSA.
EDIT: Sorry, didn't see it was the Blue Orb II
