What model is your modem and router?

Either of them may not support newer DOCSIS versions. So your speeds will be affected.

Of course it does, if you've got 2 connections it's just like having 2 network cards, or 2 network ports on your motherboard.

The advantage with 2 connections would be you could use one connection for all your downloading and one for gaming.
