7600GT general oc advice please

Thread Starter
new to pc gaming and still teachin myself this craft, just need to know if i'm on the right track.

was havin trouble with low frame rates, so updated from original nvidia drivers to
the latest 162.18 xtreme-g drivers, made a big difference, also tried z-tweaked but did not run as well.

installed nvidia ntune from nvidia website and increased the core bus speed, made another big difference.

overall increased 3dmark06 score by about 200.

is there any other modified drivers to try?

is there a better way of overclocking the gpu?

is it ever necessary to update graphics card bios?

thanks for all previous help, great forum you got here.

As long as you have the latest drivers and such no BIOS update could flash it to higher speeds but I would use ATI TOOL or coolbits in the nvidia control panel or rivatuner all are good just make sure you check for artifacts ATI TOOL is perfect for this. Back down 6-10 mhz until stable and no artifacts in games. Do the core first then memory.

thankyou

have been playing with ati tools, first i found out the maximum speeds.

i've had brought the gpu freq down to 630 from the maximum of 647.
seems stable and running games smooth enough.

is it normal to be getting a lot of blue screens, and blank screens and the system just freezing when trying new gpu freq settings that are below the maximum?

also how long should i leave the artifact scan running for? have been leaving it till the temp levels out, about 5 mins levelling at 70 degrees.

no, blue screens are no normal, and for a reliable test, let is scan for 4-6 hours at least. also i prefer use coolbits instead of Ati tools, there is an option to find the Max values on Mem and Gpu frequencies, after that u can increment a bit and test...then increment again and test....

btw, the NGO nvidia tweaked drivers are very nice....

i also have a 7600GT and I think you are pushing the core a bit too much at 630Mhz.... when you start getting blue screens there is somehting wrong...so just be careful...also increasing the memory gives you better performance.....also u may need to change the stock cooling of u want to overclock
