Depends on how much you want to spend? I would go with a set of Crucial Ballistix DDR2-800 or G.SKILL HZ. Anything with higher speeds(D9 chips are great)with good timings and try to stay under 2.4v kills life even if rated that speed. I got the G.SKILL DDR2-800 NQs they go for about 89-100 dollars.

What kinda PSU you got might want to watch it then again your GPU ain't to heavy on load and that CPU at 3.0 probably needs 40 percent less power then my 805 dual core at 3.0!

No your computer hangs because of your punny X300. Your computer should balance out.

If some component is to powerful for one other it will just be a bottleneck. So i dought your ram is the problem i suggest you spend money on a new GFX card instead of ram. Yes, 2gb is preffered but a balanced system is what is needed then you go spend the money on a decent pair of Dimms

7900gs

It cost the same amount of money as a decent ram kit does but it will balance your system. I would hold off on ram thoguh
