Xbox 360 Direct PC Connection?

Thread Starter
Hi, I am wondering if I can use a direct connection through my pc to run media center, live, etc.

Here's my setup: I have my Modem connected to a router, router to my pc, pc to my xbox.

Modem---Router---PC---Xbox 360.

I can't seem to get it to work like this, and at the moment I can't connect the xbox 360 to the router.

The 360 fails the IP address test, any ideas why???

Thanks for the help!

You have to have Universal Plug & Play Service activated, and running. If you did any windows tweaks, they most likely advised you to turn it off, and you did unknowingly. The XBOX 360 Needs this service to send data and stream music/video to your TV, from your PC.

I found this out the hard way, by testing it out. There were/probably are still not, any help files on this. After Universal Plug & Play, it might ask for 1 or 2 more services to be activated, or turned on, just do the same for them, and it should recognize your XBOX 360 pretty fast, if you turn on WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER's File Sharing. It'll recognize it.

Any other questions, just ask.

Oh, I just noticed how your setup was.. Yeah, you'll need to bridge your connection with your lan controller, probably in bios.

Ok so where do I get the plug and play and how do I bridge my connection with a lan controller?

Will this allow me to play xbox live and use the internet at the same time, and use the media center?

Um, why can't you plug the Xbox into the router? That's by far the simplest solution to getting both the PC and XBox online at the same time, while still maintaining Xbox-to-PC connectivity. If the router is full, either a) buy a bigger router with more ports, b) unplug something you don't use very often, or c) add another second-tier router.

Don't you have to share internet connection or something? I remember i made sure it was shared and allowed other users to connect to the internet through this PC when i hooked up my laptop through my PC.

Maybe try that?

sorry, but i dont understand completely. What did you want in your pc ? you want to have the Xbox connected via your pc and not directly ? As mentioned above, connecting the Xbox directly to the router is the best way to do it. I am not sure how many networking options actually are there in the 360, so , it may not be possible.

You need to get a crossover cable if you're connecting your Xbox directly to your PC
