P5B Deluxe - Can't get Cd-DVD drive to read

Thread Starter
So, JMicron is enable, and it picks up the drive, but I can't get it to boot from a cd or dvd. It worked a couple nights ago, and I loaded xp. It say i had to register within 30 days, then I downloaded an update and it locked me out. Now I can't get it to load again. I am trying to load Vista now, but neither Vista or XP will load.

It says can't find NTLDR and asks me to restart. If I put in a hard drive with an OS, it gives me an error message and then boots into the hard drive. Why won't this thing boot from CD? Thanks.!

Are you using only 1 cd/dvd drive?

Are the jumpers on the drive set accordingly, to its cable position?

In your boot settings..is the drive listed as the 1rst boot device?

did you go into the BIOS and change the boot order?

Did you check the cd for smudges or fingerprints? That the most overlooked of all when the cd won't boot.I know it's a simple and sometimes a worthless suggestion. But it does get overlooked a lot.

Just 1 cd/dvd drive, jumpers set right, driver is listed as first boot device in Bios.

There is a little smudge on the cd. I'll try wiping it and try again. Probably not it though since neither cd will boot.

Do you have another cd/dvd drive you can swap to see if it the drive you are using? Also is there any scratches on either of the cds?

You probably have the jmicron settings fouled up. Load BIOS defaults, then set your boot preferences and try again.

I wiped it clean. Still say NTLDR not loaded or something. I don't have another DVD drive but I have another CD-Rom. I will try using it and see if windows XP will load. It's on a CD. Vista is on a DVD.

I have a new DVD drive on the way, but it won't be here till Monday. A SATA drive instead of this one. It was being a pain to get it to working before but I did get it to work one time.

Is there any way to flash the BIOS from a USB drive? It says it won't work with a NTFS file system. Can you flash the bios from a USB in any way with NTFS?

I tried a different CD drive. Same error. NTLDR doesn't load. From what I read from researching, I guess that the board isn't reading the IDE right. I guess I just got lucky the other day. I'll see if I can possibly update the JMicron IDO controller somehow. If not I'll just wait until my SATA DVD drive comes in and hope that works.
