Just set up raid 0 array, random access time is poo...

I just finished setting up a raid 0 array with two brand new WD1600JS 160gb drives, and my random access time is 18ms in HDtach. Most I've seen using onboard raid are 11.5-13.5ms, the highest I've seen is 15. My average read is 110mb/s, which seems about right for my drives. Burst is 300mb/s. Stripe size is 64k.

Is this just the crappy nvraid controller or is something else wrong?

128k stripe size is too large, you usually get better performance with a smaller stripe. Try 32k.

Don't expect too much from onboard RAID, it usually does not perform well.

Think I'm going back to single drive until I can afford a decent controller.
