Ubuntu installtion issue

well i took the .rar(iso) and put on dvd and boot it and then when the menu pops i choose install or update Ubuntu first thing happens it sais loading linux kernel or something then sais loadin files and then i see a little please wait letter on the top right of the screen then boooom blacks out, i tried waitin for 20-30 seconds nothing happends what do i do?

Switch your monitor to the other port on your video card and see if that changes anything.

what do you mean by "boom blacks out"

if you mean it just goes to a blank screen but the computer is still on, then ive had the same problem and couldnt fix it, i had to find a linux distro that would install, then finally i tried slackware, worked great.

post specs of your computer, please.
