Ticked off at P5KC RAID

Thread Starter
Well I just found out on the Asus forum that the only RAID support this board has is with the eSATA's and using the crappy JMicron controller. The internal SATA ports can't be used for RAID....AGHHHHHH. On Newegg where I just ordered mine it says that RAID 0/1 is supported and UNDER that in a whole different line it says ADDITIONAL RAID controller JMICRON.....man that's just FALSE advertising. I mean WHAT'S the point in having RAID if the ONLY thing you can use is eSATA ports.......geeeeeez....... I may just send this board back when it gets here....or write my own BIOS...hehe....

When I looked at the egg's page, it said ICH9-R.

I checked it again today and it only says ICH9. They sure drop the R from their website.

I'd said call egg and tell them you made a mistake and go for the GIGABYTE GA-P35C-DS3R.

Or the one w/o the DDR3 support, the GIGABYTE GA-P35-DS3P.

Yes I had sent them an email stating that the board was being falsley advertised, but cool they changed it quickly so there is no deception...except it is still pretty deceptive because it says it supports RAID 0/1 but doesn't say that's only on the eSATA for RAID 0/1 or JBOD.

You need to write a review on the product on Egg.

Not a RAID guy here, just curious. Why dont you want to run RAID through the esata ports?

Well, because that means that I would have to have one or more of my hard drives outside of the comp...not inside.
Newegg has changed the page again to reflect that only the eSATA supports RAID.

I've just bought one of these. You say it supports RAID via the e-SATA port, what exactly does that mean?

Does it mean that a RAID array can be setup using one of the internal SATA ports and the e-SATA port?

Surely the only reason for this would be RAID-1 as a backup? If it possible to plug an internal drive into the eSATA and use RAID-0? I know it would be messy but out of interest, is it possible?

P.S. 1st post, hello everyone!

eSata is for EXTERNAL sata HDD'S.

If you have Internal HDD's and want to raid them then you have a problem as you dont want you Internal HDD's outside to random elements

It kind of defeats the Object.

Send it back I say and get the GA P35C DS3R
