Bump... for obvious reasons.

Also because I haven't subbed this thread. Problem solved.

Bump. After my last final exam this Friday, I'm going to start folding because of this.

Thanks OP.

I still feel the same way about folding. I am a "want to be scientist" who ended up being a computer programmer instead of my first love which was biochemistry and physics.
Maybe one day I will sell my company, and go back to school to combine my computer skills with technology like folding.
--Knitelife

With inspirational writing like the original post, you should consider selling your company and going into teaching high school physics... (i.e. giving up all hope of a decent income and any type of life during the school year in trade for seeing the spark of science starting in kids.) And there are lots of programs for science teachers in the summer for great science research...

Great reasons to fold. Thanks!

Knitelife, I just want to say thank you. I know this post is now nearly 4 years old, but this has just convinced me to start folding. I hope the bump with my reply gets more people to look at it and take up the cause as well.

bump for the CC

Also like to add that I have a relative who works in the pharmaceutical industry, and word is that folding, model-based research, is going to become even more prevalent, useful, and more widespread in the next few years. This will only get better as hardware improves

To answer one of the most frequent questions, the work being done now is actually being put to good use as we speak
post #37 of 49
Just saw this for the first time. Feel a lot better about all the extra cash I've spent solely for the sake of folding.

282WU's, 380k points, and I don't plan on stopping after reading this.

This project has been going on since 2000 so they must be able somehow someway to convince the people the hold the purse strings that that it is a reasonable way to spend research dollars (and it is not NVIDIA).Unless its funding is guaranteed someway it must be doing something to satisify the people that look at the cost of the program but with the state of the budget in CA I would be a bit nervous. We did hack back the budget for space exploration and a lot more people can wrap their minds around what happens with a moon shot or a shuttle shot.
