Socket 478 Prescot 3.4Ghz Heatsink - Page 2

It starts at about 10%, then at higher temperatures around 61-61C it goes into 50-60%.

Also I don't think thermal throttling can be controlled, I have the motherboard thermal shutdown set at 70C, I have never even gone near that. Isn't it built into the CPU?

hmmm
no

My mobo can adjust the throtling. and the thermal shutdown temperature.

Bingo.

Haveing HT enabled or disabled has nothing to do with it. I used to run my Pentium 4 650 (3.4Ghz stock) at bang on 4.0Ghz after raiseing vCore and with HT still enabled. Up to 3.75Ghz I could run at AUTO voltages, though above that required more CPU vCore.

It's perfectly normal to see hardly any increase in temperatures when vCore hasn't been raised. More volts is what makes temperatures shoot up the most.

Is the tuniq much better then the hyper 48? Or just slightly better?

What temperatures should I expect on 3.4Ghz?

Apparently our systems are different

1. If hyper-threading wasn't used in the program I understand.

However in all my programs it makes a big difference.

On my CPU raising the speed increase heat alot

By the way, my case has an air duct that hovers right above my hyper 48, you can feel it suck in cool air.

Since the tuniq doesn't take in air from above, how should it be installed?
I was thinking of having the hot "exiting" air pointing towards the 120mm on the back, and probably having a small fan replace the air duct and blow directly on the top of the tuniq.

I reinstalled the heat sink, noob mistake.

I didn't realize the heat source was just a small block under the die, I thought the entire die would generate heat.

I would spread a thin layer and rub it in with my finger over the entire processor, this time I applied a tiny bit, and pressed the heatsink on to get a nickel sized circle.

My temps are around 54, with occasional jumps to 57. The heatsink still has rust on it which will not come off.

I'm still considering buying the tuniq tower, even though my temperatures are good, I don't think I can overclock any more.

Also, this may be a bit unrelated but..

My graphics card does not have a temperature probe, can I overclock with with ATITool with no increase in heat just like my proccesor? As long as I don't touch the AGP voltage in the bios?
