Will the CMOS clear?

Thread Starter
I have a new build I am making and will then ship it off to a friend.

I plan on getting a x2 3600+ and then DDR2-800 RAM that should OC a little to run a good 1:1 ratio...

My question is, will the bios clear? I mean there will be no power besides the motherboard battery during the shipping process and I don't want my friend to get a computer at 1.9 and slow instead of the 2.8 I promised...

if you have a mobo battery in there then it should be fine.

Also just incase, note down all the settings so you can guide him through resetting up the bios if needed.

first of all, those batteries last forever. i had a computer unplugged for over a year once. when i plugged it back in, the Windows clock was within a minute of actual time. second, many motherboards have an option in the BIOS to save two overclock profiles. if his mobo has an option like that, use it. that way you won't get stuck talking him through the BIOS over the phone either.

The cmos battery in motherboards last for at least a year, i've had the same one in my mobo for like 2 1/2 years now. (I know, a new MB and proc is in the process). But yeah you should have no problem
