Fx53 first oc

post #1 of 9

Hello guys,

Being ever more unsatisfied with my system performance, I settled on overclocking until I buy a new computer. I looked on the subject pretty much all day long.

cpu-z on standard clock
http://img166.imageshack.us/img166/1377/specszs2.jpg

Tried a bunch of thing and had pretty bad results so far.

Here is the last thing I tried:

Multiplier= 12.5
fsb=210
clock=2625
for clock of 2625
voltage to 1.65V

System start... beep
I can see the first bootscreen but not much is displayed on it except the kind of cpu and delete to enter bios...

Can't enter the bios from there though, cant do anything at all...
There is suppose to be an auto clock reset for problems like that on this board but apparently its not working and I have to reset the cmos everytime.

Any idea on what I am doing wrong

Hey welcome to the forums.

As always we first ask of you to fill out all of your system specs so we can help a lot better.

Judging from the info i'd say you first have to disable a few settings in your bios:

cool 'n quiet
fsb spread spectrum

I think coolnquiet was disabled last time but fsb spread spectrum Im not sure, I dont remember ever seeing that feature in the bios.

Also updated profile with more complete specs

Ok then FSB spread spectrum lightly modulates you fsb to decrease E.M.I. thus increasing your pcs lifespan.

But modulating your fsb (going up and down very fast ) is'nt good for your oc.

in my bios it's found at chipset settings (where you set your fsb and all.)

Also Ocing should be done in small steps.

As always a higher fsb is what you want in the beginning.

So since you have an fx: lower your multiplier and increase your fsb.
repeat this in small steps: lowering your multi and increasing fsb in steps of 2/3 mhz.

Stop once you've achieved your factory core speed.
At least you know your boards not limiting you.

So increase your fsb little by little making sure xp boots all the way.
Actually you should test for stability too (3+ of orthos).

A good thing is also to loosen ram timings to squeeze out some extra fsb.
You can always tighten em later.

So this'll keep ya busy for a while

All right, overclocked pretty much all night long.

To sum up,
I could get the cpu up to a clock of 2600
fsb 208
multi at 12.5
everything was stable and I leaved the cpu v at auto aka 1.5V

to push up more, I tryed to raise the voltage to 1.65v, crashed, had to reset the cmos

What ive come to realize is that any change to the voltage would just force me to reset the cmos

Im not sure what I am suppose to do at this point

AMDs dont really like .5 multis..stick to whole number multis and just up the multi by 1 until its unstable, then just add more vcore
