8GB DDR2-800 and Vista - Page 2

Vista uses 500-700MB ram, that leaves 3.5GB or so of ram for applications and games. It will be awhile before a game uses that much ram.

This is how it will probably go for gamers:
2GB = XP
4GB = Vista
8GB = Next Windows
Gaming isn't the only application that uses memory...

We will soon see for ourselves what 8GB does for benchmarks.
Looking forward to seeing your results as I'm in the process of picking parts for my new system. Good luck!!

I think that 4 GIGS will be the sweet spot in the future and soon to come. I really do not think 8 GIGS will be needed anytime soon for desktop users.

Good, 4x stick of memory.

But here are some other results with the P5K-Deluxe and 8GB of DDR2 as well: 8 gig Mushkin PC2 6400 @ 450 FSB 1:1 and 4-3-3-8

Except in that review RAM is overclocked and lower CAS.

Man that's some pretty good timings if you ask me for that amount of mem. Especially with DDR2 mod's.

I noticed a considerable raise in performance when I went from 2GB to 4GB on Vista Ultimate X64, Alt+Tabbing never went so smooth on this OS, and now I can play Dark Messiah of Might and Magic without worrying about memory, I haven't reinstalled Supreme Commander to test it out, and BF2 seems to be crashing a lot lately due to a memory error, but my clanmates are saying they get the same error. So maybe it's the 1.41 Patch for BF2 that's screwy.

I think that 4gb of ram is enough for vista,8gb is way to much but we will use it near future for sure with new technology of coarse and new games with DX10
