I think a nice sound card, wont hurt you at all no matter if you game or just browse internet. But you dont even need an $80 sound card. Unless you are an audiophile. But i think you need to invest in a $50-80 sound card and everything will sound better and take less cpu.

Sound card, will take some of the load off your cpu. Not sure what your system specs are (click quick links at top right and go to profiles and fill in your system specs, this will let others know what you have so as to help you better) but if you play pc games it will help your performance. Also if you listen to music or plan to you will notice the difference in quality.
